Buckhantz made the transition into television at ABC affiliate WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg and, as an intern, broadcast the 11pm sports and weather.  He remained at WHSV, upon graduation from JMU in 1977.   From there, his television broadcast career took him to WRCB- TV in Chattanooga, TN, WTVF in Nashville and WSB-TV in Atlanta before returning to his hometown and Fox 5 in 1984.

Buckhantz is widely remembered for breaking perhaps the biggest local sports story in decades with the 1993 announcement of Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs first retirement.

He has done play-by-play for the "NFL on Fox" and in 1994, was part of that networks' inaugural season televising professional football.

Buckhantz has been involved in numerous charity events and regularly lends his support as an emcee in various fundraising efforts.

For the past 13 years, he has been the celebrity spokesman for the Steve Buckhantz/St. Jude celebrity golf tournament, which to date has raised over 2.5 million dollars to benefit the children's hospital in Memphis.  He also serves as the honorary chair for sixth annual Cardinal Bank Charity Classic benefiting Inova Kellar center which helps children, adolescents, adults and families in our area.
